Turn Back Time on Florida’s Forgotten Coast

Just a few minutes west of Port St. Joe, you’ll find a quiet stretch of coastline where the beaches are just as beautiful as you remember them. St. Joe Beach and Beacon Hill, often called “The Beaches”, are right off Highway 98 and have long been a favorite for people who want to unwind without the crowds.

Beacon Hill marks the border with Bay County and sits right on the line between Eastern and Central time zones. It’s the kind of place where you can quite literally, turn back time. Catching a westerly sunset over the water from Beacon Hill is something you don’t want to miss out on.

Just a bit further down the road is St. Joe Beach, where the views stretch across the bay. If you spot what looks like an island in the distance, you’re actually looking at the tip of Cape San Blas, home to T. H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. It’s one of the most beautiful state parks in the country, and the only way to reach that far end is by boat. Once you’re there, you’ll find clear water and quiet shores.

If you’re craving a little more activity, paved biking and walking trails, boutique shops, and casual places to grab a bite are just a short drive away; perfect for a morning stroll or an easy ride with a view.

Though St. Joe Beach and Beacon Hill are all about tranquility, you’re still just minutes from the heart of Port St. Joe, where you’ll find everything from fresh seafood restaurants to lively music spots. It’s close enough to pop into town for the evening, but far enough away that you’ll always feel like you’ve escaped to your own little world.

If you’re dreaming of a home that still keeps you connected to everything you love about the Gulf Coast, this area is worth exploring.
