Unspoiled Shores and Easy Days on St. George Island

St. George Island is a 22-mile-long barrier island that is one of Florida’s best-kept secrets where everyone comes for the same reason: peaceful, natural beauty. Crowded beaches? Not here. This island offers wide-open stretches perfect for fishing, swimming, or simply relaxing and watching the waves roll in.

Outdoor lovers will feel right at home with a range of things to do. On the island’s east end, Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park offers kayaking, hiking, fishing, and much more. You’ll also find scenic bike trails that pass through dunes and coastal greenery, stretching all the way to St. George Plantation on the west side. Regardless of what you plan to do, there’s always a way to connect with nature.

In 2023, St. George Island was voted “Best Beach” by Dr. Beach and once you visit, you’ll understand why. The beaches here are quiet and beautifully kept, making them a favorite for all ages.

For a small island, St. George has plenty of local flavor. Start your day with Southern comfort food or a hearty breakfast at The Beach Pit. Later, grab lunch with a view at Blue Parrot Ocean Front Café. Then, when evening rolls around, Paddy’s Raw Bar is the go-to for oysters, cold drinks, and live music.

No visit to the island is complete without stopping by the St. George Island Lighthouse. This beautifully restored landmark offers sweeping views of the island from the top and local history at the museum below.

While St. George Island offers an easygoing vacation destination, it’s also a sought-after spot for second homes and permanent living.
